Adventuring with Maggie Stiefvater & Court Stevens…and UPCOMING EVENTS!

Please tell me you have plans to embark on some fantastic adventure, even if it’s just around your own town!

If you follow my Instagram, you’ll know I’ve been adventuring with mainly book travels recently.

In March I did the author panels at Ontario Teen Bookfest – which was a blast (I LOVE THEM!), and finally got to meet the incredible Cindy Pon (GO BUY HER BOOK “Want”!), Romina Russell (who is my person, love her!), Aditi Khorana (her new book, guys…), Lilliam Rivera (who is doing fabulous things & is SO kind), and so many others I adore!

And in May I had two trips with dear author friends Maggie Stiefvater & Courtney Stevens, who are some of the truest people I know.

The first trip was to stay with them for the weekend in San Francisco – & attend their “7 Sentences Seminar” (a 1-day workshop for writers). And it was fantastic! If you ever happen to find one near your area – GO TO IT. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll learn a ton more skill-honing for the writing craft. And it’s perfect for beginning writers as well as experienced, which is pretty incredible. (Now to go apply it as I edit book 5…)

My 2nd trip with them was to Richmond for a week – where a group of us hunkered down to cook & laugh & breathe & just be. There’s something about being with so many sisters of your soul that is JUST. SO. HEART-FILLING. (Brenna Yovanoff, Maggie Stiefvater, Bridget Chambers, Carla Lafontaine, Courtney Stevens, Patricia Riley, and me)

And on Saturday, we got up early to set up their next “7 Sentences Seminar” – which was just as phenomenal as the first. <3

And of course there’s Maggie’s goats… <3

And lots of driving from Nashville to Richmond with my very dear Court Stevens…

And then Maggie sent me off with an ARC of HER LATEST BOOK THAT IS SO AMAZING THAT IT *cough cough, whispers* might share the same space of love I have for The Scorpio Races, shhhhh.

And then I came home to a million things on my work plate – as one does, ha.

My favorite of which was to turn around and do a school visit for THESE wonderful teens!! You guys, I LOVE this high school. Every year the District Librarian and teachers host an Art & Literary Contest. And every year I get to go cheer on the winners, see all the incredible entries, and talk about how failing is the absolute best because if you do it well it leads to success. ;)

And right after that… another little adventure happened.

Yesterday THE EVAPORATION OF SOFI SNOW released!!!!! FINALLY!!!!

I truly could not be more proud of this book.

All I can say it, it’s a piece of my latest heartbeat – my hint at what things I value, what I counsel teens & parents in, what relational struggles & nuances I see – and the effects we all have on each other. And what questions this world should be asking now more than ever… Namely, “What is humanity & how do we retain it in ourselves? How do WE as a people stay human in the face of our own accomplishments & intentions.” (And just wait for those questions on full display in book 2. Mwaha.)

That said, it’s also my ode to the fast-paced, fun summer romps of old skool, girl & boy sci-fi adventures (earth & entertainment-oriented rather than hardcore sciency descriptive ;)). It’s gamer-girl taking on the world. Sibling care & protection. Hispanic boy being different than the labels everyone believes. It’s politics & parenting & an alien ice planet that’s abruptly appeared in our solar system beside the moon. And I hope you have fun with it, friends. <3

More than that, I hope you know how very grateful I am for each of you. Thank you for walking this journey with me all these years. Y’all are my heart. <3

Enough sap.

Here’s the deets on where I’ll be <3 (So if you’re around, please come see me & chat!)

ALA, June 23-25. I’ll be speaking at the pop-top stage & signing books Saturday morning. :)

The Realm Makers Conference, July 27-29. I’ve never been, but was invited to teach on Friday and Saturday. Looks like fun!

DRAGONCON!!!! Sept 1-4. Possibly my favorite event of last year – I cannot WAIT to attend again this year!!! I’ll be paneling on the YA Writing Track. <3 <3

Okay, I’ve never been to the PASADENA LOVES YA Bookfest – but I’ve heard phenomenal things about it over the years! I can’t wait to attend & meet new friends! I’ll be paneling and signing books that Saturday, Sept. 16. <3

The Central Coast Writers’ Conference is another event I absolutely LOVE. Love the staff, love the authors, love the people. Sept. 28-30 I’ll be paneling with author friends like Jay Asher (13 Reasons Why) & teaching two classes. And it can’t come soon enough!!!!

If you’re in the area for any of these, please hit me up and let me know so I can come say hi!!!!

And if you’ve got any plans for this summer – share them in the comments! I’d love to know what y’all are up to!! <3

All my love, friends.

Sounds like you had/have a full summer!

Thank you so much for coming to Realm Makers this year. It was so awesome to finally meet you in person. I love your heart and perspective on life. The information you shared was so spot on with me and what God has been speaking to me. Thank you so much!!

Our summer was one of adventures as well. Spent a weekend at a cabin with friends, went to Reno with the family, saw the Hoover Dam, Lake Tahoe, Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater, Roswell UFO museum, and Carlsbad Caverns. Pretty epic and now completely exhausted. Ha!

Wish you well on your next adventures!

Hi Kaelyn!! I love that you have a YouTube channel! And animating and speed painting sound like a blast. I have friends who do that – and I WISH I was skilled enough to do so! And lol – thanks for the compliment on Siren’s Song. I think it’s my favorite of the trilogy. :) xoxo
